Tai Chi
By Wang Fei

Tai Chi is gaining popularity in Japan. Tai Chi, called "taikyokuken" in Japanese, comes from China. In China, if you go out at 5 or 6 o'clock in the morning, you will find there are many people doing exercise in the park and in the playgrounds. Not only the elderly but also the youth are doing all kinds of exercise.

Tai Chi is a branch of the traditional Chinese sport of wu-shu. It helps you keep fit and prevents diseases. It has been widely practiced among people since the 16th century. It forms an important part of the treatment prescribed by hospitals.

Tai Chi is popular because it is an adaptation of a simplified set of exercises and it is efficient in treating chronic diseases such as high blood pressure, neurasthenia and pulmonary tuberculosis.
